Screening potential employees for medical
conditions that may affect their ability to perform the tasks in
their job description is important to protect the health of the
employee and help prevent expensive mistakes in recruitment.
A pre-employment questionnaire will cost in the region of
£30. The potential cost of employing a person who is not fit to
undertake the tasks in their job description could easily run
into thousands of pounds.

Candidates are passed fit if nothing is
declared on the questionnaire that would contraindicate
employment, or their declared medical condition does not
affect their ability to carry out duties required by the
job for which they have applied. The employer will be
informed in writing of the candidate's health status.
The alternative scenarios are either that
the candidate has declared a medical condition or that
the nature of the job requires specific laboratory
screening or clinical assessment.
